In The Blog: Father's Day Addition - The Perfect Home: What Dads Actually Want
Father's Day is a great reminder that behind every well-loved home is usually a dad with a very specific list of must-haves. Whether you're a dad in search of your next place or you're house hunting with one, here's what we hear time and again when dads tell us what they really want.
1. A Garage That's Actually Usable Not just a catch-all for holiday decorations and forgotten sports equipment. Dads want a garage with room to work. Think built-in shelving, a workbench, and space to actually park a car. Bonus points if there's a mini-fridge tucked in the corner.
2. Outdoor Space Worth Firing Up the Grill In Kansas City, we take grilling seriously and dads lead the charge. A solid backyard patio or deck is always near the top of the list. Whether it's hosting the whole neighborhood on a Saturday or just grilling on a Tuesday because it's Tuesday, outdoor space is non-negotiable.
3. A Kitchen Built for Game Day Dads who love to cook or just love to host want a kitchen that can keep up. Open layouts, a big island, quality appliances, and enough counter space to stage a full spread for a Chiefs watch party. Yes, that's a real requirement we hear.
4. Storage. More Storage. Seriously, More Storage. Between the golf clubs, camping gear, tools they're definitely going to use someday, and the kids' bikes, dads run out of space fast. Walk-in closets, deep garages, built-ins, and basement storage are all massive wins.
5. A Personal Retreat It doesn't have to be a full man cave (though we're not going to argue against one). A quiet home office, a hobby room, or even just a great chair in a corner that's theirs. Dads need a space to decompress. Extra points if there's a TV pointed at a couch.
6. A Living Room Built for Movie Nights Comfort is non-negotiable. A spacious, well-laid-out living room where the whole family can pile onto the couch for movie night, game night, or a playoff game is something dads consistently rave about when we ask what they love most about their home.
7. Smart Tech That Just Works Programmable thermostats, a rock-solid Wi-Fi setup, smart security. These aren't luxuries anymore. Dads love technology that quietly keeps the household running without anyone having to think too hard about it. Set it and forget it? Perfect.
At Elevated Home Team, we've helped a lot of dads and a lot of families find the home that finally checks every box. If you're thinking about making a move this summer, we'd love to help you find the space that works for your whole crew.
Happy Father's Day to all the incredible dads out there! 🎉
